SPECIAL NEEDS NETWORK DEVELOPS NEW PROGRAMS TO HELP PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES NAVIGATE THE COVID-19 CRISIS
New Initiatives Include HIPPA-Compliant, Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy for Children April 27, 2020 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Special Needs Network, one of the nation’s premier autism advocacy organizations for underserved communities, has developed new programs and resources to help people with disabilities navigate the COVID-19 crisis. The new programs include a swiftly developed HIPPA compliant program that provides evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children.
Special Needs Network’s ABA therapy for children is available for youth currently receiving services from Special Needs Network and includes an expansion of therapy hours to address the greater need across California in light of school closures. Special Needs Network is a Medi-Cal provider, accepts private insurance and is a regional center vendor.
“Special Needs Network’s new initiatives in response to COVID-19 are designed to ensure that people with disabilities and its constituents throughout California are supported and cared for throughout this public crisis,” said Special Needs Network Founder and President Areva Martin. “At a time when many organizations and behavioral health providers are closing or halting services, we are grateful to be able to continue servicing California’s most vulnerable communities.”
Special Needs Network other new initiatives include:
• Expanded delivery of behavioral health treatment via telehealth for hundreds of Medicaid and privately insured families in South Los Angeles;
• A pantry providing non-perishable items to seniors and people with disabilities;
• A 24-hour hotline staffed with professionals to help callers deal with stressors of quarantine and isolation;
• Advocacy training and other skill-building webinars, including our signature Parent Mentoring and Advocacy Program (PAM);
• Facebook interactive videos with educational and recreational activities for the entire family; and
• A Facebook Live show ‘The Special Report’ hosted by SNN President and talk show host Areva Martin that provides viewers with compelling stories, breaking news and access to the nation’s leading and most trusted experts on COVID-19. Special Needs Network’s new initiatives in response to the COVID-19 crisis will remain in place until families are able to safely return to work, school, and community activities.
