UCLA Autism Genetics and Human Diversity Project

An SNN/UCLA Research Collaborative

Through a partnership with Daniel Geschwind, MD, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, SNN recruits families for a study examining whether patterns of variants ties to autism in people of European descent are similar to those of African Americans.  This research study collaborative’s purpose is to help researchers understand the genetic risk of autism disorders as well as healthcare disparities in autism services among African American families. This project also aims to increase the number of people from minority groups that participate in autism research as well as aid to better understand and meet the needs of African Americans and other minorities by the medical field.  

Several data collection events are held throughout the year at designated locations. Families receive compensation for their participation and no formal diagnosis is necessary to participate.
