THINK Autism

Awareness Campaign

The THINK Autism Campaign by Special Needs Network is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing the critical underdiagnosis and inadequate support for autism within the African American and Latinx communities. In Los Angeles County, the discrepancy is evident, as African American children represent 30% of those with special healthcare needs, despite making up only 12% of the child population. This campaign focuses on closing these gaps through clinically backed research, global partnerships, and dynamic live discussions. Inspired by the diagnosis of the founder’s son, Marty, the THINK Autism Campaign builds on the foundation’s legacy of supporting underserved families in South LA. This movement encourages the community to engage with the hashtag #ThinkAutism, promoting early intervention and global awareness to foster significant changes in the lives of children and families impacted by autism.

Key Points:

  • Addressing Disparities: Focuses on the stark underdiagnosis of autism in African American and Latinx children compared to their representation in the community.
  • Community and Research: Leverages global partnerships and clinically backed research to drive discussions and interventions.
  • Awareness and Action: Encourages community participation with the hashtag #ThinkAutism, aiming to enhance global awareness and promote early intervention strategies.
